What is included?

All of our trips include a captain and mate, as well as snacks, drinks (water, beer, and juice), and fruit. You are welcome to bring additional snacks, which can be stored in the captain’s cooler on board. We provide all the necessary rods and reels, as well as bait, either freshly caught during the trip or previously frozen. Please note that the tip is not included in the trip’s price.

This was our third boat as the other two both had engine failures. We were thankful they worked with us to find us a boat that could take us out, as we had a very limited window!  The crew were professional, kind and helpful. Wound up catching 3 Sailfish and seeing lots of turtles and dolphin. They brought sweet fruit and delish Cubans for us to snack on and made sure my elderly mom was secure, safe and comfortable at all times. The crew was incredibly knowledgeable of the area including the history and wildlife. We hooked a 9ft sailfish and my 17yo son reeled it in like a champ with all the guidance and support of the crew. Released 6, that easily could have been closer to 10 with the ones that got off or didn’t quite take the bait.  Great crew who are very attentive to your needs while keeping you comfortable and in the game the whole time.  For someone who has fished in many billfish waters; I’d highly recommend these guys for the experience all around and would not hesitate to book with them again.  Verified Tuna Fish Charter
I chartered the Tuna Fish boat for Monday July 11th for a full day of fishing specifically for Marlin and Sailfish from Secrets Papagayo. Upon picking me up at the beach of the hotel (very convenient) I was advised with the Red Tide that we would probably have more action if I changed my plans from Marlin and Sailfish to Tuna, Roosterfish, etc. They explained that we would need to go an hour and a half plus to get to where we might be able to catch something. With the news, I was disappointed and anticipated that if I stuck to what I was after, I would likely end up with nothing. So I accepted my fate but stuck to my guns and went for the Marlin and Sailfish. Yes, the boat ride was long and of course the weather was hot, but as long as i stayed near the side of the boat I had an adequate breeze to help with the heat. When we reached the appropriate area and started fishing, it was probably an hour before we got a strike, but we landed a sizeable Sailfish. The day just continued to get better! By the end of the day, we only lost 1 strike, but landed FIVE Sailfish and a small Mahi Mahi. That Mahi Mahi turned out to be a great dinner at the Seaside Grill at Secrets Papagayo. As the day progressed, I was kept informed about other boats, When we landed the second Sailfish, one other boat had also landed two. Unfortunately for them, that was the end of their luck. On the day, no other boat except that one landed even two Sailfish, but we had our five. If I could rate Romerio (mate), Max (Captain) and the Tuna Fish higher, I would. There is no question that when I go back, I will be chartering with them again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED based on my experience!!!

 Verified Great 1/2 day fishing trip
Last Sunday we went on the Tuna Fish for 1/2 day trip with Rom and Max. They picked us up right from our hotel beach (Planet Hollywood). We had a terrific experience. We caught a few rooster fish, all released in great shape. They were punctual, friendly, and terrifically hard-working fisherman. The even had all kinds of snacks and beverages for us.  Verified Outstanding Rooster fishing experience
Booked a full day from Playa Conchal directly with very helpful Capt. Juan Mendez. Captain Greyvin and Yeremy as the second in command took care of us picking us up at the Conchal beach in front of the Westin. Friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. My two boys in their early twenties told them we did not want to troll all the time ( boring), wanted to use their lighter tackle gear which the brought from Portugal, and wanted to go after Rooster fish. Went slightly offshore for live bonito bait which was fun catching ( even took some to our hotel for delicious sashimi). Then for 4 hours not a bite until the Roosters appeared. An 80 and a 60 pounder! Fantastic experience, well worth the price. Pura vida! Thank you Papagayo! PS. We did buy our fishing licenses for boat fishing online before arriving.

 Verified What a day!!!
What a day! Captain Guido and deck hand Josh picked me up from the beach at Playa Conchal right on time. Josh was an expert with the dinghy and brought us to the La Manta, a 27’ Shamrock which was in very good condition. We headed out to sea for a full day of fishing. The 90 min trip out was picturesque and it was some nice down time for me. Josh rigged the lines and we starters trolling and 15 min we got a hit but the Mahi Mahi was t hooked. I looked at that as a good sign, but we went another two hours without a sighting. We had lots of dolphins hanging with us which was fun. Then all of a sudden it was on! Yellowtail Tuna!!! I brought in two right away and got a couple of pics and then another hit and I reeled in a monster! Got a couple more pic and after that we were all business! Josh was rigging poles a d filleting Tuna as fast as he could! At the end of the say I thought I landed 6 maybe 7 but it was actually 9! We’ll needless to say I enjoyed a couple of beers and celebrated with the crew! I also took three fillets and had fantastic dinners three nights in a row with Westin team going out of their way to make my catch into a great experience! Poking the trip was easy and communications was perfect with Genaro responding very quickly to any question I had! I highly recommend this team for your fishing adventure!

 Verified Perfect day of fishing in Costa Rica
We went out with Geromy and Naoum. They were waiting on the beach just by our hotel, and we were fishing in minutes for skipjack tuna and bonito. We caught some that were ultimately used for bait later. We caught two huge rooster fish and jigged for Spanish Mackerel as well. They kept us on the fish and taught us how to jig for them. Recently my wife and I visited Secrets in Costa Rica on a getaway trip. My wife who loves the ocean was looking to fish for somethjng different. We booked a 6 hour trip on the La Huida with Captain Nito and Armando. In the past in Florida we have booked 4 hour trips but decided to go a little longer because we understand it takes time to get a catch sometimes. Well worth it. The boat picked us up at the resort at 7:30 am sharp. We travelled about 45 min and for the next 4 hours they searched. They were extremely polite and asked any questions that we had along the way. Several dolphin sighting were seen in between. On 3 occasions we had bites. My wife was able to lure in 2 Mahi Mahi with their assistance. Each Mahi weighed in excess of 20 pound and over 3 feet Long. I on the other hand lost 1 during the reel. Each fish caught was great. They had great enthusiasm for the catch. After the trip we asked if they knew of any restaurants in Coco Beach that would cook for us. They gave us a suggestion of Ancla Bar and had no issue dropping us off at the small town. They filleted both fish and we only took what we could eat. The bar has no issue cooking the Mahi into tacos for us. They even suggested a safe taxi service for Us to use to return back to the resort which worked out perfectly. We met a very nice driver who we used exclusively next few days who was honest and never tied to price gouge us. Overall the trip was fantastic . And this is coming from someone who normally isn’t into the open ocean . Highly recommend Nito and Armando
